Choosing a Program and University
Universities: Denmark has several globally ranked universities, such as the University of Copenhagen, Aarhus University, Technical University of Denmark (DTU), and Copenhagen Business School.
Admission Requirements
Undergraduate Programs:
A high school diploma (equivalent to the Danish upper secondary school leaving certificate).
Proof of proficiency in English.
Some programs have specific subject or grade requirements, especially in areas like engineering, science, or medicine.
Master’s Programs:
A recognized bachelor’s degree equivalent to a Danish bachelor’s degree.
English language proficiency (typically IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 90-100).
In some cases, relevant work experience or specific academic qualifications may be required for admission to certain master’s programs.
Application Process
Undergraduate Programs: Applications for undergraduate programs are submitted through the centralized application platform Optagelse.dk. The deadline for most programs is March 15th, with studies beginning in September.
Master’s Programs: Applications for master’s programs are typically submitted directly to the university via their online application portals. Application deadlines vary between universities, but most are in January or March for the September intake.
Documents Required:
Transcripts and certificates (translated to English)
Proof of language proficiency (IELTS)
Statement of purpose or motivation letter
Letters of recommendation (if required)
Curriculum Vitae (CV)
Offer Letter
After submitting the application, universities review the documents and qualifications. Admission decisions(offer-letter) are generally communicated within two to three months after the application deadline.
Residence Permit for Study
You need to apply for a Residence Permit for Studies once you receive your letter of admission (offer letter). The Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI) handles residence permits, and processing can take up to three months. You must show proof of financial means (around DKK 6,589 per month or approximately EUR 880) to cover living expenses.
Scholarships for International Students in Denmark
Danish Government Scholarships
Denmark provides scholarships to highly qualified non-EU/EEA students under the Danish Government Scholarships program. These scholarships are administered by individual universities and usually cover full or partial tuition fees and sometimes include living expenses.
Erasmus+ Program
